The albumen cabinet card is dated on verso "1890" and is titled in French. " 2nd Secretary of the British legation." Sir Henry George Outram Bax-Ironside joined the diplomatic service in 1883. He served in Copenhagen, Tehran, Vienna, Cairo, and Washington, and was briefly in charge of the Central American Legation in 1897, before being appointed Secretary of the Legation in Pekin in the same year.
