The postcard is titled in French on recto stating that the image is of Mr. Nose, the Persian Head of Customs and other foreign individuals attending a party in Tehran dressed in Persian clothing.

 

Josef Naus was the highest ranking Belgium offical who led a mission to Persia in 1898 to develop a nationwide custom and excise framwork for the country. Given the success of the framework, Josef Naus was effectively appointed the Persian Minister for Finance. However, he left the country in 1907, or a year after the constitutional revolution. There is a portrait of Josef Naus by an unknown photographer in the Nelson collection.
